Bombing Raid

By Denis Vass of Graham High School The Red Devils traveled to Burlington tonight to take on the Bulldogs of Williams High. For the second straight game, the host team displayed the intensity and hunger in trying to best the Red Devils.
Williams held Graham to one bucket the entire first period- a three point basket by Kendall Patterson with a minute remaining. Graham was ice cold the first period. Williams was a little warmer, failing to take full advantage of the Red Devil's offensive woes. At the end of the first period, Williams clung to a 10-6 lead.
Patterson's three point basket was a forewarning of what was to come. The air raid sirens sounded, and then the Red Devils set their sights on the basket from long range.
For the second straight game, Graham used the second quarter to annihilate their opponent. The Red Devils made five straight threes before they even made their first two point bucket of the game with two minutes remaining before the half. The devistation was so complete that the Red Devils outscored the Bulldogs 28-9 to trot in the locker room with a 34-19 lead.
Graham dropped in 7 three point bombs the first half. Troy Bowden led the assualt, scoring 14 points the first half.
The Red Devils were just warming up. They continued the bombing raid the entire second half, ending up with 14 precision strikes for the game.
Wave after wave of relenless full court pressure and long-range bombs resulted in a 74-48 pasting of Williams.
Troy Bowden led the Red Devils with 25 points. He connected on 7 buckets from Church Street. Courtney Edmonds added 17, while Trent Torain supplied 12.
Omar Bigelow and Ben Kelley scored 12 points each for Williams.
The Bulldogs fall to 1-3, while the Red Devils improved to 5-1.
Graham's JV boys clung to a 42-39 lead with 5 seconds left. Graham allowed Williams a two point basket, but with no timeouts left for Williams the Junior Devils won their sixth game of the season.
The Williams girls outscored Graham 10-2 the second period to break open a tight game as the Lady Bulldogs notched a 47-38 win over the Lady Devils. Kay Kay Wilson led Graham with 8, while BrieAna Snipes and Deja Cousins scored 7 each.
Graham will host the Aussie Travelers, a club team from Australia tomorrow night.
