Red Devils Advance
May 5, 2012
By Denis Vass of Graham High School The Red Devils appeared to have their attitude on cruise control as they escaped with a 7-5 win tonight at Zachary Field against a vastly-improved Cavalier squad from Cummings.
The Red Devils led 7-2 as Cummings batted in the 7th, loading the bases, scoring three runs on four hits before Logan Andrews was able to entice Moshi WIlliams into a groundout last out to end the game. Andrews, in his second stint of pitching for the evening, was the Red Devil's 5th pitcher.
Danny Routh, batting in the nine spot was 2-for-2, scoring one run, and driving in two for Graham. Graham only managed five total hits off the Cavalier's pitching of Tony Gwynn, Janike Holt, and Deangelo Lambert.
Congradulations to Cummings for a hard fought game, never giving up and making some outstanding plays in the outfield. Tarrence Sellars was 2-for-3 for the Cavaliers, while Tony Gwynn scored twice.
Graham will travel to Siler City for the semi-final game of the Mid-State 2-A Conference Monday evening at Jordan Matthews High School. The opponent and game time is to be announced.
