February 7, 2012
By Denis Vass of Graham High School The Cummings wrestling team claimed first place Saturday during the Mid-State 2A Conference Tournament in the Devil's Den, whiel Graham captured second.
Stuart Dillard avenged a one-point loss to Cummings' Chris Miles on December 31st at the Eastern Guilford Tournament, posting a 6-1 win to close out his career in the Devil's Den with a win. Miles was clearly distraught with the loss to Dillard.
Dillard had a range of emotions when he stepped on the mats for the 220 final against Cummings’ Chris Miles, who won a one-point decision against Dillard on Dec. 31 in Eastern Guilford’s tournament.
This time, Dillard continually frustrated Miles, who appeared worn out by the middle of the third period. And even when Miles tied up Dillard a couple of times, he failed to budge Dillard, who won 6-1, from his intentions
“It feels good to go out with a bang in this gym,” said Dillard, a four-year wrestler.
He said he aimed for this event, knowing the significance and the timing.
“I’ve been working to get ready for this,” he said.
Dillard, who recorded a 57-second pin of Jordan-Matthews’ Ethan Cook in the semifinals, will continue his prep career in this month’s regionals.
Graham’s Jack Snow posted a 10-5 decision against Jordan-Matthews’ Eric Ocampo to win the 120 division after two earlier pins.
