Red Devils Sweep Bartlett Yancey

By Denis Vass of Graham High School Graham's JV and Varsity teams swept Bartlett Yancey tonight in the Devils Den for their second straight sweep of a conference opponent, after sweeping Eastern Randolph Friday night in Ramseur.
The JV's (11-5, 4-3) got the brooms started with a 72-66 overtime win. Tyrick Gattis was the catalyst in the overtime period, connecting on a three-point basket, then stealing the ensuing inbound pass, and making both of his free throws to extend the Junior Devil's lead to 67-61 with 1:30 remaining in the game. Gattis finished the game with 12 points. He scored 7 in the overtime period.
Tavarius McElvaine led all scorers with 18 points, while Khalil Cole added 12. Romeo Ferguson tallied 11 for Graham.
The Lady Devils (11-7, 6-1) held onto their second place spot in the conference with a resounding 54-23 win.
Graham jumped out to a 14-7 first period lead, then turned up the defensive screws, creating havoc on the defensive end and holding the Lady Buccaneers (0-15, 0-6) scoreless the second period. Graham trrotted into the locker room at the half leading 36-7.
Caroline Enoch led all scorers with 24 points. On her basket in the second period that recorded her 10th point, Caroline became the 14th player in school history to join the elite 1000 point club.
Enoch also pulled down 10 rebounds. Taylor Fluette connected on 2 three-point baskets, and added 9 points, while BrieAna Snipes also canned two three-point buckets and ended with 7 points.
Jasmine Murchison connected on two three point buckets late in the game to lead the Lady Bucs with 7 points.
In the evenings nightcap, Graham (13-5, 5-2) jumped out to a 24-14 first period lead and held on for a 71-57 win. With the loss, Bartlett Yanced fell to 3-8, 1-5.
Justin Cousin led all scorers with 20 points on an off-night shooting. Cousin only managed 5 buckets, but connected on 10 of his 15 free throws. Kendall Patterson added 18.
Bartlett Yancey scrapped and clawed the whole game, with Mark Ingram banging home 18 points, and Daliffe Barley adding 12.
Graham will host the Bulldogs of Williams tomorrow night in the Devil's Den. The Williams boys team is coming off a stunning loss to Burlington Christian Academy last night.
