Lacrosse Dominates Gonzaga in Opener
March 14, 2010Georgetown Prep
On a dreary March Saturday, Inside Lacrosse’s preseason #9 team in the country, The Georgetown Prep Little Hoyas, put their number to the test with a 14-2 dismantling of the Gonzaga Purple Eagles. Prep got on the board first, thanks in part to a Bobby Gribbin (3 goals) bouncer; and they never looked back. Following Gribbin’s Goal, Fern Murias (Michigan) had a nice individual effort to push the lead to 2-0. Just minutes later Gribbin (Penn State) tallied for the second time extending the lead to 3-0. Goalie Ford Martin started his first high school game and performed admirably, shutting down the Eagle’s attack. In the Second Quarter, Prep got a man up goal from Conor Shanahan along with a garbage goal from Mike Pirone (Denver) keeping their foot on the pedal. Prep opened the flood gates in the second half scoring 5 goals. Matt Collins (Notre Dame), Cory Dobyns (Maryland), Pat Glading (Virginia), Gribbin, and Shanahan all contributed to the third quarter run.
At this point, with the score 10-1, Prep continued to dominate, finishing the game with more goals from Bob Sheehan, Liam Giblin, Pirone, and Collins. As the game came to a conclusion and the Hoyas found themselves as 14-2 victors they realized they wanted more and that more is a win in their next game. That game will be against the defending National Champion, Gilman Greyhounds. Gilman, an perenial Baltimore powerhouse, defeated Prep last year, 9-6, on their way to the National title. Prep will look to do the same in their quest this year to capture its own National Title. Come out and support your Little Hoyas against Gilman this Wednesday, the 17th. GO PREP!
