Westchester Trevor Ariza Tipoff
December 25, 2012GPA Scouting Sports News
Over the past week GPA Scouting attended the Trevor Ariza Westchester Basketball Tournament. These are some things that I observed on Saturday. In the first game Taft overcame a fierce come back by a very scrappy Peninsula team. It was a hard fought game and Taft eventually pulled it out. The final score Taft 57 - Peninsula 53. The next game Gardena Serra vs. Long Beach Jordan. Jordan fought hard and had some very good guard play but were undersized and Serra's big men eventually wore them down combined with there aggressive defense. Serra started to hit some shots and ran some set plays that led to easy layups. Serra walked away with a 3rd place finish. The final score was Serra 70 - Jordan 63.
In the championship game a very athletic Westchester team took on a well coach and fundamentally sound Bishop Montgomery team. Westchester athleticism and fullcourt press kept them in the game, but the sharp shooting of Bishop combined with a well tuned offense help them prevail. The final score Bishop 70 - Westchester 63.
In all, the tournament provided a great week of competitive basketball. Good luck to all the teams moving forward with their seasons.
