Moews to Run at State Meet

October 28, 2009
By John Simmons of Van Buren High School

Van Buren senior Ben Moews qualified for the Iowa State Cross Country meet to be held this Saturday at Kennedy Park in Ft. Dodge. The Van Buren senior finished in 8th place at the district meet at Wapello last Monday. The Warrior had to wait 4 extra days, for the meet was postponed from last Thursday due to wet conditions.
"Ben has been battling the flu and cold this last week" commented Coach John Simmons. The extra days were a benefit to him to get his health back in shape." "He ran a smart race. It is especially gratifying for he was 11th last year, one place out of qualifying."
The district was loaded with talent. There were 8 top twenty five ranked runners in this class 1-A district. Ben stayed with the lead pack, finishing approximately 30 seconds behind the first place runner.
Ben will run this Saturday at Kennedy Park in Ft. Dodge. The boys race will be the last one of the day kicking off at 2:30.
