December 4, 2013STATE FAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The Roadrunners (6-2) used an opening 11-4 run to secure an 83-74 victory over the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers from Overland Park, Kan., Nov. 20 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The win was the third in a row for SFCC.
“We did a good job rebounding to begin the game,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “Our energy level was high, and we made shots and shared the ball well. We couldn’t keep the intensity going for the entire game, but if we start playing at a higher level for longer stretches we could be a dangerous team.”
Sophomore guard Joseph Thomasson led his team in scoring with 26 points. Sophomore guard Kevin Punter contributed 21 points and led the team in steals with three. Sophomore center Isaac Freeman pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and registered a team-high four blocks. Thomasson and sophomore guard DeRon Hill dished out a team-high three assists each.
“We had some good contributions,” said Thomas. “Kevin Punter had a sensational game again with 21 points and seven rebounds. Joe Thomasson scored well offensively with 26 points. Isaac Freeman played well on the glass. Marcus Mondaine gave us some good minutes inside and Dondre Alexander played well; hopefully we will continue to grow.”
The Roadrunners will participate in the Coffeyville Classic Nov. 22-23 in Coffeyville, Kan. SFCC will take on Labette Community College at 5 p.m. Friday and Coffeyville Community College at 7 p.m. Saturday.
