Roadrunners to play Southeastern Community College
November 8, 2012STATE FAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners will take on the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks from West Burlington, Iowa, Nov. 13 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
The Blackhawks lead the all-time series between the schools 5-2. This will be the first meeting between the schools since the 1998-1999 season when SFCC lost a 79-70 decision.
Terry Carroll is in his sixth season as head coach at Southeastern Iowa.
"We have to stick to our defensive principles," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We need to pressure the ball and make it hard for them to run the offensive plays they want to run. We want to keep them out of their comfort zone."
The Blackhawks have five players averaging in double figures this season. Freshman guard Jordan Stevens leads the team in scoring with 16 points per contest. Sophomore small forward Tyrie Orosco contributes 12 points per game and pulls down a team-leading 3.5 rebounds. Freshman power forward Nick Lyon adds 11 points per contest and freshman guard Warren Jones pitches in with 10.5 points. Freshman guard Dontay Jackson registers 10 points.
"We have to be extremely physical," said Thomas. "We need to use our defense to create turnovers. Offensively, we need to keep doing what we’re doing, share the basketball and try to get to the paint as much as possible."
The Roadrunners will return to action at home Nov. 16-17 in the Stone Laser Imaging Classic. SFCC will take on Independence Community College on Friday night and Harcum College on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
