Schuyler County Lady Rams are starting to turn the corner at the right time. This past week they took their two game winning streak into the Milan Tournament. First up for the girls was Grundy County. The Lady Rams turned back Grundy County 77-30. Four players scored in double figures, with Lesa Ford dropping in 27 points, Alyssa Buckallew with 16, Kourtney Nelson with 12, and Caley Sessions with 10 points. "We jumped out early being aggressive and unselfish," commented Coach Kirkland. Next up for the girls, was a rematch with Milan on January 13th. The Lady Rams jumped out early again, with a 27-4 lead after one quarter, only to see Milan close the gap 36-31 at the half. Milan managed to tie the game twice in the 4th quarter, only to see the Rams respond with a huge bucket. " The girls showed alot guts and performed under extreme pressure when the game was on the line." Schuyler had the ball in the remaning seconds of the game when Buckallew kicked the ball out to Sessions for a game winning 3-pointer. Three girls lead the team in scoring, Lesa Ford and Alyssa Buckallew both had 16 points and Caley Sessions added 15. Schuyler's winning streak would be stopped at 4 games in the New Year. The girls ran into a tough opponent in the Milan Championship against Class 1 ranked Mercer. Schuyler hung tough only down 15-14 after one quarter and 33-22 at the half. "Foul trouble really hurt us in being aggressive and attacking the basket," responded Coach Kirkland, "You can't win games when a team shoots 22 more freethrows than you do." The final score was Mercer 81-51 over Schuyler. Leading the way for the Lady Rams was Lesa Ford with 14 points and Caley Sessions with 13 points. Next up will be the North Shelby Tournament where the girls are a # 5 seed. We will be playing Wednesday and Friday, the week of January 17th-21st.
