Good Hope 3  0 4  1  0  0  X -  8

WP: Matt Blackmon
LP: Casey Watts

TIME OF GAME: 1:45

With four runs coming across in the third inning, Good Hope broke a deadlock and went on to capture the Cullman Couny baseball title Thursday evening and improving their record to 7-4 on the season.

Dustin Varner singled home Kyle Smith to snap the 3-3 tie then a run scored on a fielder's choice by Joey Roberts, Tyler Pembleton sent a run home on a sacrifice fly and a double by Kevin Thomas brought in Chris Davis and the Raiders were on their way of taking home another county championship during the current athletic season in Cullman County sports.

Matt Blackmon, who lost the previous week to the Broncos by the score of 6-1, came back with a good effort in throwing a complete game, allowing Holly Pond five hits and striking out 10 batters.

The last four outs recorded by the senior right hander were strikeouts. He got Jake Harden on a called third strike on a 3-2 count to end the one-hour, 45-minute contest.

Catcher Jake Mann had two singles and a double with courtsey runner Josh McClure scoring two times for him. Kyle Smith slapped a pair of singles and scored three times as well. Dustin Varner drove in a pair of runs on singles with Good Hope collecting 12 hits in the game.

Eric Whitehead, who relieved Watts after two and two third innings of work, was two for three with a couple of runs scored to lead Brett Neal's Broncos.
It was a great accomplishment for Raider coach Mitch Witcher after he led Good Hope to the '07 championship game, coming up short in the final to Vinemont. Witcher got greeted by a bucket of water on a cool evening as his team accepted the championship trophy from West Point Prinicipal Darrell Brock.
