Home » Girls' Basketball NewsHomewood............CHECK!December 29, 2012 By Shane Mitchell of Good Hope High SchoolThe Good Hope ladies faced a much tougher task in their semi-final match-up with Homewood tonight in the Hayden Holiday tourney, than they did in their first round walkover on Thursday night. The ladies would be tested in all aspects of the game and managed to pull out a hard faught 64-58 victory. 5A Homewood was very quick and athletic and posed a different look to the Raiders just about every time up and down the floor. The Good Hope girls bent but never broke in the contest, as they showed a lot of grit and determination. Although GH never trailed on the scoreboard, they were tested throughout. GH led by as many as a dozen points on more than one occasion, but Homewood would manage to chip away each time. GH led by 3 points at the half and stretched their lead to 10 with just 2 minutes to go. Homewood would press late in the game and force some GH errors, but clutch free throws at the end gave GH the big victory. Tillman led the scoring with 18 points. Goodwin and Bishop each added 12, while Wilson had 11 for GH. Thomas had 7 points, Fendley 3, and Calvert 1 point. With 4 starters reaching double digits, the Raiders proved to be very difficult to stop from any position on the floor. The ladies will face the winner of Hayden/Hueytown at 8:30pm Saturday night. Come on out and support their championship effort!
