Home » Girls' Softball NewsMUCH DESERVED!June 10, 2012 By Redd Rider of Good Hope High SchoolSome much deserved post season awards are coming the Lady Raiders way!
Cara Goodwin has been selected as the 4A Pitcher of the Year by the ASWA. With 43 wins and 525 strikeouts, which leads the state and country in all classes, Goodwin is much deserving of this honor. She also ended with a powerful .86 ERA after pitching 318.2 innings and facing 1225 batters. She also had 19 shut outs and 4 no hitters.
K'ra (as we like to call her) ended the season with 1415 career strikeouts (AHSAA) which gives her another entry in the record book. She is credited with 1263 for NFHS record book purposes. She is only 372 stirkeouts away from an entry in that book as well. The NFHS does not recognize below 9th grade varsity stats.
Cara also helped at the plate with a .380 batting average and a .526 slugging percentage. She scored 38 times on 65 hits and had 34 RBIs. Her 4 homers, 1 triple and 11 doubles were timely hits that helped the Lady Raiders in critical moments throughout the season.
Alannah Henke earned First Team All State at first base. Henke not only secured first base she was powerful at the plate sporting a .455 batting average (2nd on the team), scoring 41 runs on 70 hits and 40 RBIs. Henke slammed 5 home runs, had 2 triples and 16 doubles to help the team.
Kayla Tillman was honored with Honorable Mention All State as a Designated Hitter. There must have been some very tough competition for this spot as Tillman led the team in batting average (.480), runs scored (51), hits (84), RBIs (46) and home runs (12).
Tillman's grand slam in the AHSAA Area 13 Tournament was both memorable and timely! She was a serious threat in the field and at the plate for the Lady Raiders!
All three of these fine young ladies deserved the honors bestowed upon them!
The best part, they will all return next season! We can't wait!
