Warrior Wrestlers 3rd at Regionals, Qualify 7 Individuals for Sectionals

The SHS Wrestling team placed third at the IHSA Rock Island 2A Regional Saturday.  Geneseo won the team title, and earned the spot in the Rochelle team sectional.  Seven Golden Warriors will compete at the Rochelle individual sectional next week.

Leading the way for SHS were regional champions Jaden Urrutia, Josh Villarreal, and Curtis Lilly.  By winning regional titles, all three earned first round byes at sectionals.

Urrutia (30-6), a freshman, captured the title at 106 with a pin in the championship match. Villarreal (28-8), a senior, took first place at 195, winning the title match by tech fall.  Lilly (31-4), fought his way to the title at 285 with a 2-1 decision in the title match.

Other Warriors who earned top three regional finishes and spots at sectionals are:
Issac Anderson (3^rd at 112)

John Hardy (3^rd at 126)

Bryant Lilly (3^rd at 160)

Will Canales (3^rd at 220)

Next Up: Sectional competition begins Friday evening in Rochelle.  The top four place winners in each weight class qualify for the state finals.  Anderson and Curtis Lilly qualified for state last year.
