Sterling (15-12) jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the second quarter, and then fought back Kaneland comeback attempts the rest of the game. The Lady Knights (12-10) got as close as seven points on a few occasions in the second half, but no closer. SHS secured the win by making 10 straight free throws down the stretch.
Kiarra Harris paced Sterling with 16 points and eight rebounds. Kaitlyn Bauer had 12 points and five boards. Gabby Sandoval, Stephanie Kester and Raquel Romano scored six points each.
Next Up: The Golden Warriors have three conference games remaining: Thursday (1/31) at Streator, Saturday at home against Peoria-Manual, and Feb. 7 at home against LaSalle-Peru.
