The SHS Wrestling team recorded a come-from-behind 34-30 win over LaSalle-Peru in a NIB-12 West duel Wednesday at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
The duel came down to the final contested match of the evening at 285. With Sterling (8-9, 3-1) trailing 30-25, senior standout Curtis Lilly (20-4, ranked 3rd in state) recorded a 9-2 win over LP’s Nolan Keeney. The resulting three team points Lilly earned, plus six points earned by Jaden Urrutia (forfeit win at 106) provided the final margin of victory for the Warriors.
Josh Villarreal (195, 20-3) held on for a big 5-3 from LP’s Ryan Marlett, who entered the match with a 20-5 record.
Other winners for Sterling included Isaac Anderson (18-4 @ 113), John Hardy (fall, 126), Austin Olalde (fall, 132) and Bryant Lilly (fall, 160).
Next Up: The Golden Warriors compete at the Batavia Invite Saturday, before travelling to Princeton Tuesday (1/15), and hosting Rock Falls Wednesday.
