Junior Zach Rehmert scored a career-high 27 points in leading the SHS Boys’ Basketball team to a 55-50 NIB-12 West win over Streator Friday at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
After the first quarter ended in a 10-10 tie, the Golden Warriors (7-8, 2-1) started the second quarter on a 15-1 run to take a 25-11 lead. Streator scored its only two baskets of the quarter with less than a minute to play to pull within 10 (25-15) at halftime.
Sterling held the lead the entire second half, but Streator did manage to pull as close three (48-45) in the fourth quarter, but Sterling managed to hit six of eight free throws down the stretch to earn the victory.
Rehmert was 7-17 from the floor (4-11 3P) and 9-10 from the free throw line in recording his 27 points. Tre Whittaker, JD Sheppard, and Micah Miller scored five each for the Warriors.
Sterling shot just 33% (15-46), but outrebounded Streator 41-24.
Next Up: After a non-conference game at Rock Island Saturday, the Golden Warriors travel to LaSalle-Peru for a key conference battle Friday (1/11). LP sits atop the NIB-12 West standings at 4-0.
