Home » Bowling NewsWarriors Edge Out MorrisDecember 18, 2012 Sterling High SchoolThe SHS Girls’ Bowling team recorded an exciting NIB-12 victory over Morris Thursday at Blackhawk Lanes.
After losing the first game by 81 pins (980-1061), the Golden Warriors won the second by 81 (1042-961) to square the match heading into the third and final game. All six of Sterling’s players recorded strikes in the first frame of game three, and that sparked SHS to a 1110-1059 win, giving the Warriors the match 3132-3081.
Destine Howard had a big night for SHS with a 632 series, which included games of 213 and 253. Following Howard’s lead for SHS were Brandy Behrens (541), Amber Granzow(524), Samantha Lewis (502), Megan Tintori (484) and Sheilyn Winstead (449).
The win gave SHS eight NIB-12 championship points, keeping the Warriors (5-1 in NIB 12) league title hopes now. “With three matches to go, we still are a team looking from the outside,” said SHS Coach Dennis Black of the conference race. “We knocked Morris out of first, but Dixon now has 52 points, Morris 48, and Sterling 46. Our only hope is for us to win out, Morris stumble against DeKalb, and Dixon fall down against Sycamore, whom we must also bowl. The odds are against us but there is still hope.”
Next Up: The Golden Warriors compete at the DeKalb Invitational Saturday (12/15), before taking an extended holiday break. SHS then returns to the lanes January 3rd at Ottawa.
