Home » Bowling NewsGranzow Has Huge Day at United Township InviteDecember 10, 2012 Sterling High SchoolThe SHS Bowling team placed second at the United Township Invitational Saturday, but the story of the day for the Golden Warriors was the afternoon session turned in by senior Amber Granzow.
After averaging a 192 for the morning three game session (578 series), Granzow rolled afternoon games of 244, 256 and 279 for a 780 series – the 7th best series in recorded state history. Granzow claimed first place individual honors with a six-game score of 1358.
Following Granzow’s lead for SHS were Destinee Howard (1146 six-game series), Magin Tintori (1094), Samantha Lewis (1052), and Brandy Behrens (947).
Granzow’s huge effort helped SHS move from fourth place in the team standings to second place by the end of the day with a score of 5597. Moline won the team title with a score of 5725.
“This gives me some confidence that for the rest of the season we might compete at a higher level,” said SHS Coach Dennis Black. “We beat every team in the UT tournament we will meet in the Sectional except for Moline, whom we did out-bowl in the afternoon session. The sectional tournament involves the same teams we encountered at last year's Sectional but it will be held at Highland, the same lanes we bowled on Saturday.”
Next Up: The Golden Warriors travel to Rochelle Tuesday (12/11), before hosting Morris Thursday.
