The SHS Girls Basketball team improved to 2-0 in the NIB-12 West with a 39-28 win at Dixon Friday.
After jumping out to a 9-0 lead, Sterling (5-3, 2-0) struggled on offense for the rest of the first half. SHS did not score the entire second quarter, missing all 13 shots from the field. Despite those offensive woes, the Golden Warriors still held an 11-10 halftime lead.
Sterling heated up in the third quarter, connecting of seven of its first 10 shots and grabbed a 26-18 lead into the fourth quarter.
A Raquel Romano 3-pointer, gave the Warriors a 29-18 lead early in the final quarter, before Dixon scored six in a row to pull back within five points at 29-24.
A basket from Kiarra Harris, and an old-fashioned three point play from Kaitlyn Bauer put the Warriors back up by 10 (34-24), and Dixon (3-7, 1-1) did not threaten again.
Harris paced Sterling with 11 points (5-6 fg), Stephanie Kester scored nine, all coming in the second half. Bauer had five points and a game-high seven rebounds.
On the sophomore level, Sterling recorded a 26-21 win.
Next Up: The Golden Warriors host Ottawa (5-3, 2-0) in a big NIB-12 West matchup Tuesday (12/11) at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
