Girls Sports

Sport: Volleyball

Final Record:
NIB-12 West Record: 10-0 (1st place)
Post-season: Lost 25-20, 15-25, 17-25 to Rock Falls in Sterling 3A Regional championship.
Noteworthy: The 34 wins establishes a new school record. The previous record was 32 set in 2010. Last year’s team won 27 matches. Prior to 2008 (20 wins), the record was 18 wins in a season. Senior Krista Loos was named NIB-12 West MVP, and Sauk Valley Newspaper’s area Player of the Year.

Final Record: 9-3
NIB-12 West Record: 5-0 (1st place)
Post-season: Placed 2nd (tied with Alleman) with 16 points at the Moline Sectional. The host Lady Maroons placed first with 23. Brooke Hendricks (singles) and Callie Sinn/Emily Parsons (doubles) placed fourth to qualify for the state finals.
Noteworthy: In addition to the regular season conference title, the Golden Warriors also won the post-season tournament, edging out Ottawa by one point. At state, Hendricks went 1-2, and Sinn/Parsons 0-2.

Final Record: 5-5
Conference (NIIC) Finish: 3rd place
Post-season: Placed 4th at Rock Island Sectional. Junior Charli Wike (200 individual medley & 100 breastroke) and freshman Shannon Long (diving) both qualified for state.
Noteworthy: The Warriors captured the championship at the Ottawa Pentathlon. At state, Wike placed 21st out of 52 in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.80 – some 2 seconds faster than her sectional time. In the 200 individual medley, Wike touched in 2:14.83 – 34th place out of 35. In the diving competition, Long recorded an 11-dive score of 105.95, placing 47th out of 48.

NIB-12 Conference Finish: 2nd Place
Post-season: 6th place at IHSA LaSalle-Peru 2A Regional. The top three team qualified for sectionals.
Noteworthy: Senior Allie Johnson qualified for sectionals as an individual by shooting a 92 at regionals. Playing in very windy conditions at the sectional competition in Normal, she shot a 103 and missed the state-qualifying cut by 11 strokes.

NIB-12 Conference Finish: 9th place
Post-season: The Warriors placed sixth at the Belvidere-North 2A Regional, earning a spot in the Belvidere High School sectional, where they placed 19th.
Noteworthy: Sophomore Mercedes Sanchez just missed qualifying for state as an individual with a time of 19:09 (26th place) at sectionals – seven seconds behind the final individual qualifier.

Post-season: Lost 68-20 in 1st round of IHSA playoffs at Woodstock-North
Noteworthy: In Jon Schlemmer’s first year as head coach, the Golden Warriors extended the school record for consecutive playoff appearances to 11. The previous record was five.

Noteworthy: The Golden Warriors won the conference championship in undefeated fashion for the second straight year.

Final Record: 6-5
NIB-12 West Record: 4-1 (2nd place)
Post-season: The Golden Warriors won the Dixon 2A Regional championship, but fell short of qualifying for state as a team for the third straight season with a fourth place finish at the Belvidere-North Sectional. Senior Andy Blackburn and sophomore Ryan Hurley both qualified for the IHSA state finals as individuals.
Noteworthy: Blackburn shot a 76 at state and finished in 7th place, earning a medal. Hurley shot 86 and placed 65th. The state competition was limited to just one 18 hole round (as opposed to the normal 36) because of heavy rain the second day. On 8/27/12, Blackburn tied the school record for low nine hole round with a 32. Josh Brown ’90 first set the record in 1989.

NIB-12 Conference Finish: 7th place
Post-season: The Warriors placed fourth at the Belvidere-North 2A Regional, earning a spot in the Belvidere High School sectional, where they placed 13th.
Noteworthy: Junior Keaton Dir was Sterling’s top sectional finisher in 49th place in a time of 16:32. The final individual qualifying time was 15:55.
