Junior Alex Soriano scored a career-high 16 points, and senior Tre Whittaker added 10 points and eight rebounds to the lead the SHS Boys’ Basketball team to a 53-30 win over Dixon in the Sauk Valley Shootout Friday at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
Sterling (3-1) trailed 11-10 after one, and 14-12 midway through the second quarter before going on a 13-4 run to end the half.
A three pointer from Soriano, a basket from Micah Miller, and a pair of free throws from Whittaker gave SHS a 32-18 lead early in the third. Dixon pulled within eight (34-26), before Soriano closed the quarter with a personal 5-0 run (3 pointer and 2 pointer) to give the Warriors a 39-26 lead after three. Dixon (0-4) would not get any closer after that.
Next Up: Despite Wednesday’s loss to Princeton, the Golden Warriors win the Sauk Valley Shootout championship with a win over Rock Falls Saturday at 8:00 p.m.. Sterling, Rock Falls and Newman are all 3-1 heading into the final round.
