Home » Boys' Basketball NewsWarriors Down Newman to Begin SeasonNovember 20, 2012 Sterling High SchoolBoxscore The SHS Boys’ Basketball team opened the new season with a 54-47 win over Newman Monday at Musgrove Fieldhouse in the first round of the Sauk Valley Shootout.
Sterling’s final seven point margin of victory was the largest enjoyed by the Golden Warriors all night. Newman led by one point three times during the game.
Making his first varsity start, junior Zach Rehmert poured in 22 points (8-16 fg) to lead SHS. Fellow junior Micah Miller (5-6 fg) added 10 points. Zack Everett recorded eight points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Junior AJ Sharp led Newman with 14 points.
Sterling has now beaten Newman 18 straight times - a streak that dates back to November of 1996.
On the sophomore level, the Warriors routed Newman 65-28.
Next Up: The Golden Warriors travel to Morrison Tuesday for the second round of the Sauk Valley Shootout. The sophomore contest tips off at 6:00 p.m. Morrison lost to Princeton 63-31 Monday.
