Warriors Roll in Season Opener

The SHS Girls’ Basketball team opened the new season and the Sauk Valley Shootout with a 64-30 win at Stillman Valley Monday.

The Golden Warriors led by as many as 13 in the first half, and by eight at halftime (32-24).  SV scored the first basket of the second half to pull within six, and then SHS erupted on a 29-2 run to take complete control.  The Lady Cardinals managed just six points after halftime.

Stephanie Kester paced Sterling with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.  Rachel Romano hit three 3-pointers and tallied 11.  Kiarra Harris had 10 points and eight rebounds.  McKenna Pearson played a great overall floor game with nine points and seven assists.

On the sophomore level, Sterling dropped a 35-20 decision.

Next Up:  The Golden Warriors host Sherrard Tuesday in the second round of the Sauk Valley Shootout.
