Warriors Drop Post-season Heartbreaker

A single elimination post-season tournament can be a source of great excitement or immense heartbreak.  The SHS Boys’ Soccer team experienced the latter Tuesday in the semifinals of the Rochelle 2A Regional.  Despite controlling the action, and taking many more shots, the Golden Warriors dropped a gut-wrenching 2-1 decision to the host Hubs.

The loss ends the Warriors fine season with a record of 19-3.  Rochelle (10-10) advances to Saturday’s regional final against Dixon or Yorkville.

All the goals were scored within the first 10 minutes of the contest.  Rochelle scored first on a penalty kick.  Solomon Ocampo answered seconds later to tie the game up.  Rochelle scored what proved to be the game winner about five minutes after the Ocampo tally.

Sterling’s high-powered offense was held scoreless for the final 75 minutes of the match.
