Warriors Top LP To Begin Conference Race

The SHS Volleyball opened NIB-12 West play Tuesday with a win over defending league champion LaSalle-Peru at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
The Golden Warriors fell behind 11-4 in the first game, but then roared back, outscoring the Lady Cavaliers 21-7 the rest of the way in a 25-18 win.
Sterling (13-1, 1-0) controlled the second game until late. The Warriors led by as many as six (11-5), and still led 21-19 before LP (10-3, 0-1) mounted a late rally to record a 25-21 win, forcing a third and deciding game.
Sterling left no doubt in the decider. With Peyton Cater serving and Jennifer Rahn controlling the net, the Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Rahn recorded three kills during the run. LP did get as close as two on one occasion (8-6), before SHS pulled away, ending the match on a 9-3 run to record a 25-15 win. Krista Loos capped off the win with an ace serve – her eighth of the match.
In addition to her eight aces, Loos also recorded a team-high 14 kills, giving her 104 for the season. Rahn ended up with five blocks. McKenna Pearson had 13 digs, and Sydney McCaslin 12 assists.
On the sophomore level, Sterling lost in three games 23-25, 25-20, 19-25.
