PARENTS DO UNDERSTAND!
February 6, 2013South Oak Cliff High School
South Oak Cliff High School began the new year with its first Prep University Family Workshop Series for 2013!
"The workshop was not only a great learning experience but a lot of fun, too!" --Carolyn Davis, Parent.
Helping parents and youth improve the lines of communication between each other, Mrs. Hill-Jones, Community Liaison, provided a few "KEYS" to Success for Effective Communication Skills!!
"The teen panel was a great idea. It allowed us to see into their world and the workshop did a great job with helping us understand each other and really hear each other out!"
The evening began as a talk show with the topic, "PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND." The teen panel set the tone and it was "on" after that! The parents and students had a blast. They genuinely listen to each other. Everyone was able to walk away from the workshop with a few communication styles and great techniques to improve communciation at home and school!!
"I plan on bringing my sister and her children to the next one! It's already on my calendar!"
Special Thanks to PEP It Up (Parents Encouraged to Participate)!, who assisted in making this parent workshop a huge success! We look forward to our continued partnership!
Parents Encouraged to Participate (P.E.P. It Up!), is a Parental Involvement Program, with a focus on sharing educational information, advice and resources that will encourage and motivate parents to introduce new ideas for parent/student activities, elevate study habits, the importance of technology and develop leadership parenting skills that will focus on raising the education expectation levels of our students.
