Home » Leadership & Service NewsR-E-S-P-E-C-TMay 4, 2012 South Oak Cliff High SchoolR-E-S-P-E-C-T, what does it mean to you. Well, exactly what does Webster say? Respect (ri-spekt;) n.deferential or high regard; esteem. It is an expression of consideration. Treat others How you would like to be treated, right? How you are treated by others is a reflection of the level of respect you command for yourself as well as how you do unto others. Your value is based off respect. If you don’t have any morals and standards for yourself then you can’t expect it from others. Respect has changed over the years and throughout different generations. Some men feel that addressing a woman as a female dog is not disrespectful. It used to be a time when men were considered coward for using such derogatory remarks, and could even suffer an altercation as a result. Today, it is considered a term of endearment. Girls and dudes are using the "N" word as casually as saying "bottled water". Now, don’t get me wrong. Men are not the sole contributors to this mind-boggling issue. Some women have no problem with the use of certain negative remarks as well. A final thought on the issue and a word to the wise, respect isn’t always required among friends. Just because you don’t get along with an individual doesn’t mean you have to be rude. Kindness and respect….They are a requirement. ***For more great articles and news highlights visit the "Document" section and check out "BEARS GRIP" The School Newspaper!!!**
