The Alter Lady Knights opened up the 2014 season at home with a 3-1 win over the Fairmont Firebirds. Both teams were scoreless in the first half as they battled through some torrential downpours of rain and a slick turf.

The skies cleared for the most part in the second half and the Knights found their rhythm. Five minutes into the half, senior Kyly Borton played a short ball off a corner kick from the left side to fellow senior Danielle Ruffolo who curved a nice shot into the net over the Firebird keeper. Borton followed with a nice long goal of her own just a few minutes later, and added another goal when she broke away, and put one in after a deflection by the Fairmont keeper.

The Alter defense and senior keeper Abby Helm held an aggressive Fairmont attack at bay, only allowing one goal, which came with ten minutes remaining on the clock. The Knights have a week to recoup and recover from a tough contest, and will travel to face an always strong Northwestern team next Monday August 25th. The JV team also opened up their season with a 3-1 win over Fairmont. The Knights are off and rolling!
