Lady Knights Advance to Regional Final

The showdown basketball fans were waiting for finally happened in the Division II Regional Semifinal at Springfield High between the Alter Lady Knights and Clinton Massie Falcons. The teams were ranked #2 and #3 respectively in the final AP poll. Alter started the came hot jumping out to a 7-0 lead. Massie got their first basket of the game at 4:30. The teams settled down a bit with Alter up 10-6 at 2:24 and ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to hold a 16-6 lead after the first quarter.
Alter maintained their lead in the second quarter and extended it to 22-9 at the 4:00 mark. Clinton Massie wasn't able to get into any offensive groove with Alter outscoring Massie 15-6 in the quarter to hold a 31-12 lead at halftime.
The Lady Knights kept the intensity on the defensive end coming out after half and kept the pressuer on the Falcons. Alter outscored Massie 17-6 in the third to hold a convincing 44-18 lead after three. The Falcons were never able to mount a comeback and the Lady Knights won 56-33. For the night, Alter shot a blistering 52% from the floor while holding Massie to 26%.
For Alter, Maddie Bazelak had 15 points while Braxtin Miller had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Hayley Combs also contributed 7 points with 7 rebounds.
The Lady Knights will face the Kenton Ridge Cougars in the Regional Finals Friday night at Springfield HS at 7:30.
