Lady Knights Declaw the Cougars in Sectional Finals

The Alter Lady Knights and Thurgood Marshall Cougars battled for the second time in 14 days in the Sectional Finals at Lebanon HS. Play was tight at the beginning of the game with Alter holding a slim 9-5 lead at 4:30. The Lady Knights finished the quarter on a 10-5 run to hold a 19-10 advantage after the first quarter. Alter jumped out to a 24-12 lead halfway through the second quarter but the Cougars kept fighting to keep the game within reach. Alter took a 32-20 lead into the half.
The third quarter found both teams battling on the defensive end with neither offense able to get into a groove. Alter held a 36-26 lead at 4:17 and finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to be ahead 41-26 after three. Both teams kept playing hard in the fourth quarter even with shooting woes but the tempo starting to swing in Alter's favor. The fouls mounted up for Marshall and the Lady Knights converted 7 of 8 foul shots to secure the 58-33 victory.
Leading the way for Alter were Hayley Combs with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Emma Bockrath with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Also contributing were Libby Bazelak with 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists while Braxtin Miller added 7 steals and 4 assists.
For the first time since 2010, the Lady Knights advance to Districts. They will play the Norwood Indians on Friday, February 28th 5:00pm at Mason HS.
