Alter Lady Knights Earn Victory over Ursuline

The Alter Lady Knights faced a tough opponent in the Ursuline Lions on Saturday, January 12 in a non-conference contest. The teams traded baskets to start the game but Ursuline went on a hot streak to take an 8-3 lead at 3:17. Ursuline kept control of the first quarter putting Alter in their biggest deficit of the year at 14-5 after the first stanza.
The Lions maintained their lead at the beginning of the second quarter controlling the game at 6:30 14-7. The Lady Knights began to battle back slowly pulling within 16-12 at 4:50. Alter kept their composure and took their first lead of the game at 3:40 18-16. The Lady Knights outscored the Lions 17-8 in the second quarter. The score was even 22-22 at halftime.
Alter came out in the third quarter focused and jumped to a 30-24 at 5:00. The game stayed close throughout the quarter with the Lady Knights holding a slim lead throughout and was ahead 35-29 after three.
Alter kept their poise in the fourth quarter when Ursuline picked up their defensive pressure. Alter extended their lead 47-37 at 4:00. The Lady Knights hit some key foul shots in the final stanza to maintain their lead and earned a hard fought 55-43 victory.
Leading the way for Alter with a double double was Maddie Bazelak with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Emma Bockrath added 23 points. Libby Bazelak grabbed 7 rebounds.
In the JV game, Ursuline defeated Alter 38-27. Contributing for the Lady Knights were Olivia Gillis and Sarah Cady with 7 points and with 8 rebounds each were Nicole Hoeflinger, Lauren Lush, and Tess Ungerleider.
