Lady Knights Take Down the Beavers

The Alter Lady Knights returned home on December 30th for their second contest in the confides of their own gym with a battle with the Beavercreek Beavers. Coming into the game, Alter was 8-0 while Beavercreek was 9-2. The Lady Knights got off to a quick start jumping to a 13-5 lead at 4:00 but the Beavers finished the quarter on a 12-5 run to pull the score within 18-17 after one.
The tempo of the game stayed at a hectic pace during the second quarter. Beavercreek scored a quick basket to take a 19-18 lead. It would be their only lead of the game. The Lady Knights settled down taking a 32-23 lead at 3:09 mark but the Beavers stayed in the game with hot shooting keeping the game within reach at the score of 37-30 at halftime.
Alter kept the defensive pressure in the second half which created some offense and extended their lead to 47-36 at 3:36 mark. The Lady Knights outscored the Beavers 18-12 in the third stanza to hold a 55-42 lead going into the fourth.
The Lady Knights kept the game up tempo forcing the Beavers into several turnovers and outscored Beavercreek 15-10 in the final quarter to earn the hard fought victory by the score of 70-52.
Leading the way for Alter were Maddie Bazelak with 15 points and 7 rebounds, Libby Bazelak with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals, Haley Combs with 11 points and 5 rebounds, and Emma Bockrath with 10 points. Kara Bockrath and Braxtin Miller each chipped in 8 points.
In the JV game, Beavercreek defeated Alter 28-22. Contributing for Alter were Sarah Cady with 6 points and 2 assists, Tess Ungerleiner with 6 rebounds, and Lauren Lush with 6 steals.
