December 15, 2013By Daniel Morrison of Archbishop Alter High School
Alter traveled down to Badin on Friday, December 13th to verse the Rams. In a varsity game that started seventy minutes late, Alter came out early to take an early 7-0 lead. But that lead would be short lived as the Rams powered back shooting 4 treys to tie the game at halftime at 32 all. Alter built a lead with under four minutes to go leading the Rams 58-53. However, the Rams made two treys and after Alter going to the line to shoot free throws with under thirty seconds to go, the score was Alter 64 Badin 62. Badin drove down the court and called timeout to draw up a last second play. With one second on the clock, Larkin (Badin guard) pulled up a jumper as time expired to swish a three and win the game for the Rams. 65-64. Nate Burger led the team with a game high 20 points.
Alter's freshman and JV team posted W's as both teams remain undefeated. The freshmen escaped past a late rally by the Rams to win 61-50. The team trailed quickly by as many as 9 points before they began to get hot. Jacob Meyer scored 6 points and had 2 blocks in the 1st quarter. Jimmy Finke scored 10 points and Ryan Markoff scored 9 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter to add to his game high of 20 points.
The JV team trailed 43-34 going in to the last three minutes of the game before great defense by Joe Laravie, Dillon Daxe, and Ryan Markoff forced four turnovers that led to points and the game went into OT tied at 45 all. Alter forced Badin into a 2nd OT tied at 56 all and the JV Knights would get the best of the Rams and went into 2 OT winning 68-63. Marc O'Neal led the JV squad with 25 points including 6/7 from the three point line.
