Home » Cross Country NewsAlter places 3rd at State CC ChampionshipsNovember 7, 2012 By John Davalos of Archbishop Alter High SchoolThe Alter High School Girls CC team had a strong 3rd place finish at the OHSAA State Championships on November 3rd at National Trails Raceway. Alter HS was ranked 5th in the state going into the championship and was expected to get no more than 5th by the experts. The team was excited and ready for a strong race and they had an incredible rally. Led by Alex Groene and closely followed by Maria Grilliot, the team was in 5th place at the first mile. By mile 2, Emma Schuermann started her PR run and a pack of three led by Austin Borton followed closely behind and had moved us into 4th place. By the end of the race, the pack of three of Austin Borton, Kyly Borton and Kristen Petrosky proceeded to pass runners as a pack, Alex Groene and Maria Grilliot had kicked and Emma Schermann was on her way to a PR. Our new seventh runner of Katy Yuhas hung on to help the team achieve a 3rd place title. Awesome job by a great team.
