Kennedy Islanders were crowned the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam Tennis League champions of the boys' division after defeating the St. John's Knights 26-20 in a battle of unbeaten teams Wednesday at the Islanders' home court. Notably the Islanders' No. 1 "super freshman" singles player, Chris Cajigan, added to his undefeated-season winning streak after defeating the Knights' William Lee 8-0. Brian Tuncap Jr., who also is a "super freshman" representing the Islanders, went undefeated as well throughout the season as he defeated the Knights' Youyoung Cho 8-4, according to Islanders' head coach Danny Llarenas. "The boys have done a tremendous job, really pulling throughout the entire season," Llarenas said. This season is Llarenas' first year coaching since moving back to the island and he says it definitely will not be his last. "It feels great to go undefeated throughout the season and I give all the credit to the boys," Llarenas said. In the boys' doubles matches the Islanders fell short, but it was not enough for the Knights to claim the meet overall. The Knights' Anthony John and Tom Park defeated the Islanders' Victor Tuncap and Josh Gallego 8-7. Soon after, the Knights' Ryan Freeman and Ranmaru Shimoda defeated the Islanders' Amiel Alba and Jordan Elizaga 8-3. -Guam Pacific Daily News
