Kennedy High SchoolThe Southern High Dolphins finished with a well-executed double play to claim the IIAAG girls high school softball championship for a third year in a row defeating the JFK islanders 9-4 at the GW field Saturday. “I give credit to the team [the Islanders]. They held us down; they scared us the first innings, but it’s always been a Dolphin thing, we always come back,” said Balajadia. And it was so. The Islanders kept it close in the first three innings leading 3-2 at the top for the third, however it was not enough to contain them. The Dolphins began to pull away at the bottom of the third, taking every opportunity to steal bases and to bring their teammates to home plate. The Islanders would only be able to get in one more run from Angelina Rivera. Audrey George, Siera Cali, and Rivera scored the three other runs, respectively. “Our girls are very cooperative and we stick together as a family, an Islander family. I think we won throughout the whole season just bringing the Islanders to second place,” said Ann Manibusan assistant coach of the Islanders. -GSPN
