Miles for Melissa T-shirt Information & Order Form
June 8, 2014Earlham College Broadcast Sports
For those of you who do not know me, I am Janel Iden and I have served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Earlham under head coach, Melissa Johnson, for the last 2 years. Some of you may or may not be aware that Melissa just recently began making steps forward on the road to recovery after an over 2 month health battle in and out (mostly in) of the hospital. Melissa LOVES to run and competing in 5K challenges. Last summer, she and I ran the Richmond CFW mini-marathon together. She had planned to run 13.1 again this August but the health ordeal has halted her running. In her honor, I have signed up to run the CFW mini-marathon again and plan to participate in the Wayne County 5K monthly runs. Over the last couple of months, Melissa and I have talked a lot about cherishing the small things in life, like the ability to simply walk from place to place; hence the motto "cherish each step."
I am offering the opportunity for anyone to join me in honoring her with each step in the miles that we take as she continues to recover. The t-shirt is to give visual support to Melissa and encourage her to keep getting stronger on her road to a healthy recovery. The shirts are orange and with royal blue writing because those are her two favorite colors. You do not necessarily have to compete, live in Richmond or even run! If you just leisurely run or walk, or simply want to wear the "Miles for Melissa" t-shirt to show your support for her that is fine! I plan to wear my shirt often when I train and during competitions. The hope is to have several people wearing their shirt before, during or after "the big race" on August 24th which is the Richmond CFW Mini-Marathon, 10K, 5K Run-Walk.
