LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Earlham College baseball team finished its weekend series at
Transylvania University on Sunday with a 5-3 loss.

The Pioneers (13-11, 7-3) scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to
take the lead in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Quakers got off to an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Ryan
McCray knocked in the first score with a single before the Quakers added another run
on a wild pitch.

Transylvania scored in the third to make it 2-1. The game remained that way until
the eighth inning.

Thomas Rea had a run-scoring single in the eighth to give the Quakers a 3-1
advantage before the Pioneers put together the game-winning rally in the bottom of
the frame.

Rea and McCray led the Quakers with two hits each.

Matt Brankle, who started on the mound for the Quakers, left the game after giving
up a lead off single in the eighth. In seven innings, Brankle gave up two runs on
seven hits with a walk and 12 strikeouts.

Howie Smith (2-2), who followed Brankle, got the loss.
