Men's Basketball - Julian Strickland, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman senior guard Julian Strickland (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) led the
Engineers into first place in the HCAC standings with wins over Franklin and Mount
St. Joseph and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's
Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time. Strickland scored 33 points, on
11-of-17 shooting, and drained seven three-point field goals in RHIT's 65-60 win
over Mount St. Joseph. The win moved the Engineers in sole possession of first
place in the HCAC standings. The senior added 17 points and six rebounds in a win
over Franklin on Wednesday. For the week, Strickland averaged 25.0 points and 5.5
rebounds per game, connecting on 56.3% of hit field goal attempts. Rose-Hulman
(12-3, 7-1 HCAC) will face Hanover and Transylvania in league play this week.
Women's Basketball - Nicole Coffman, Transylvania University
Transylvania University's Nicole Coffman (Liberty, Ky./Casey Co.) averaged 27.5
points per game as the Pioneers improved to 8-0 in league play and has been named
the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week
for the second time. The junior guard scored 27 points with six rebounds and four
assists in a 101-66 triumph over Earlham Wednesday. Coffman added 28 points along
with six rebounds in a 103-77 win over Bluffton Saturday afternoon. For the week,
the junior averaged 27.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, while
shooting 63.3% from the field. Transylvania (14-1, 8-0 HCAC) is scheduled to face
Franklin and Rose-Hulman this week.
Men's Track Athlete - Andrew Thompson, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's Andrew Thompson (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) ran the third fastest
NCAA Division III time this indoor season in the 3,000-meter run Friday and has been
named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the
Week. The senior won the Division III race at the Terre Haute Double Dual Friday,
setting a new Rose-Hulman school record in the 3,000-meters with a time of 8:35.33.
Men's Field Athlete - Andy Hunkeler, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's Andy Hunkeler (Kokomo, Ind./Northwestern) won the NCAA Division III
weight throw at the Terre Haute Double Dual with a mark that ranks No. 18 nationally
and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Field
Athlete of the Week. The senior recorded a mark of 53' 6.5" in the weight throw to
rank third in Rose-Hulman history.
Women's Track Athlete - Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Episcopal Acadia) ran the
fastest mile time in NCAA Division III so far this season to defeat NCAA Division I
runners from Indiana State and Illinois State and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Montgomery
set a school record with a mark of 5:05.80 that currently leads NCAA Division III
runners this season.
Women's Field Athlete - Erica Christy, Franklin College
Franklin College's Erica Christy (Greenwood, Ind./H.S.) won the shot put in her
collegiate debut at Wabash Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. The freshman recorded
the second best throw in Franklin's history with a heave of 39' 6", earning the win.
Christy also had an appearance in the finals of the weight throw, finishing eighth
with a throw of 30' 2.25".
