HCAC Players of the Week

The following athletes were named players of the week in their respective sports for
the week ending October 6, 2013.

Men's Cross Country - Kris Sandlin, Franklin College

Franklin College's Kris Sandlin (Scottsburg, Ind./H.S.) won the Silver Meet at the
Greater Louisville Classic Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the fourth time.  The
senior posted a time of 25:29.62 to win the meet which featured NCAA Division I, II,
and III schools.  The win was Sandlin's second victory of the season as the
Grizzlies placed sixth as a team.

Women's Cross Country - Margo Sinclair, Anderson University

Anderson University's Margo Sinclair (Olathe, Kan./Northwest) won the individual
title at the Earlham Invitational Saturday and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.  The
sophomore covered the 5K course in 21:25.0 to earn the title as the Ravens placed
second as a team.

Football: Offense - Ryan Landwehr, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman quarterback Ryan Landwehr (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) led the Engineers
to a 38-14 win over Hanover Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on offense for the second time.  The
senior finished 27-of-37 through the air for 266 yards and one touchdown with 91
yards and two more scores via the ground.  Rose-Hulman (3-2, 3-0 HCAC) will look to
stay perfect in conference action as the Engineers travel north to Bluffton for a
1:30 PM kickoff Saturday.

Football: Defense - Tony Sierra, Defiance College

Defiance College defensive back Tony Sierra (Warren, Mich./Cousino) anchored the
Yellow Jackets' defense in a 43-7 win over Earlham College and has been named the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on defense.
The senior had a strip and recovery followed by a 41-yard return for a touchdown to
open the scoring on the afternoon.  Later in the first quarter, Sierra picked off a
pass near the end zone and returned it 61 yards.  For the game, Sierra totaled five
pass break-ups and a team-high nine tackles.  Sierra now has five interceptions on
the season to lead all of NCAA Division III.  Defiance (2-3, 2-1 HCAC) will remain
home to face Manchester Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM.

Football: Special Teams - Matt Angel, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman's Matt Angel (Cassville, Mo./H.S.) totaled eight points via the kicking
game in RHIT's 38-14 win over Hanover Saturday and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on special teams.  The
senior kicker converted all five of his extra points and a 28-yard field goal in the
win. Rose-Hulman (3-2, 3-0 HCAC) will look to stay perfect in conference action as
the Engineers travel north to Bluffton for a 1:30 PM kickoff Saturday.
Women's Golf - No Nominations
Men's Golf - Sanders Park, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's Sanders Park (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) earned medalist honors at the
Wabash Invitational over the weekend and has been named the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.  The sophomore shot rounds of 68 and
74 to help the Engineers place second at the seven team event.

Women's Tennis - Claire Mielcarek, Transylvania University

Transylvania University's Claire Mielcarek (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) led the
Pioneers to a pair of HCAC wins last week and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.  The sophomore was
perfect in TU's 9-0 sweep of Defiance, winning 8-0 at No. 1 doubles and 6-0, 6-0 at
No. 1 singles.  In Transy's 9-0 win over Mount St. Joseph, Mielcarek earned an 8-2
win in doubles and a 6-3, 6-1 singles victory.  The sophomore is undefeated in
singles and doubles action during league play this fall.  Transylvania (6-0, 5-0
HCAC) will travel to Hanover Wednesday and play host to Anderson Saturday this week.

Men's Soccer - Drew Belk, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Rose-Hulman's Drew Belk (Jasper, Ind./H.S.) was a scoring machine in the Engineers'
5-0 win over Bluffton Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week.  The senior forward scored four goals in
the win, marking the fourth time in Rose-Hulman history that a player scored four or
more goals in a single game.  Rose-Hulman (4-4-2, 1-0 HCAC) is scheduled to face
Anderson and Defiance in league play this week.

Women's Soccer - Amy Ghibaudy, Transylvania University

Transylvania University senior forward Amy Ghibaudy (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) led
the Pioneers to a pair of wins last week and has been named the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.   Ghibaudy scored a goal in
Transy's 3-2 win over Wittenberg and added another goal in a 4-0 shutout win over
Anderson Saturday.  The Pioneers (7-2-1, 1-0 HCAC) will face Hanover in a crucial
conference match-up Wednesday evening.

Volleyball: Offense - Chelsea Ludeman, Defiance College

Defiance College's Chelsea Ludeman (Napoleon, Ohio/H.S) led the Jackets to wins over
Mount St. Joseph and Trine over the weekend and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on offense for the
second time.  In DC's 3-1 win over MSJ, Ludeman notched a team-high 19 kills with 14
digs and a .382 hitting percentage.  The outside hitter also came through with four
total blocks in the win that snapped a 10-match losing streak to the Lions.  Ludeman
followed that effort with 20 kills, 12 digs, and a .486 hitting percentage in a 3-1
win over Trine.  Defiance (13-5, 1-0 HCAC) will travel to Earlham and Transylvania
in league play this week.

Volleyball: Defense - Mackenzie Wieneke, Franklin College

Franklin College's Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./H.S.) helped the Grizzlies to a
3-0 record last week and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Volleyball Player of the Week on defense for the third time.  The sophomore
defensive specialist totaled 68 digs over the three matches, including a season-high
32 digs in a four set win over Albion Saturday.  Wieneke added 16 digs in a win over
St. Mary's College and posted 20 digs in a sweep of Earlham in conference play
Wednesday evening.  The sophomore currently leads the conference with 386 digs this
season as the Grizzlies have won six straight matches.  Franklin (13-6, 2-0 HCAC)
will host Thomas More Tuesday night and travel to Bluffton Friday evening.
