CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Earlham College field hockey team concluded its first road trip of the season on Sunday as the Quakers defeated Wilson College 1-0 in a non-conference contest.
After a scoreless first half, Kaitlyn Brunner gave the Quakers their lead with a goal at 50:06 with an assist from Tara Burns.
In picking up its second straight win, Earlham had a 10-4 advantage in shots and an 11-3 margin in penalty corners.
Helen Titcomb had a pair of saves for the Quakers in goal against Wilson (1-4).
The Quakers (2-0) return home on Friday to face Kenyon College. The North Coast Athletic Conference match in Darrell Beane Stadium gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — A goal in the first half was all the Earlham College men's soccer team would need as the Quakers defeated Wabash College 1-0 on Sunday.
Ameer Yusuf scored an unassisted goal at 38:40 to put the Quakers on top. It was his fourth goal of the season.
The Little Giants (1-2-1) led 10-5 in shots, while the Quakers had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Earlham goalkeeper Aaron Falsetto had five saves for the Quakers in posting his second shutout of the season.
Earlham (2-1) visits Wabash College on Sunday for a non-conference contest at 2 p.m.
RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's tennis team opened the season on Sunday with an 8-1 victory over Miami University-Hamilton.
Earlham began the match by sweeping the doubles competition.
Olivia Engle and Claire Welsh beat Katie Weidner and Kari Ross 8-0 in the top spot. At No. 2, Jessica Childs and Jordyn Grimes defeated Jessica Irwin and Judy Seebohn 8-2. Annie Foley and Vesta Davis posted an 8-0 win over Kendra McAdams and Sara Christenson in the third position
In singles, Engle won 6-0, 6-0 over Weidner at No. 1. Welsh beat Ross 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
Childs blanked Irwin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Foley won by the same score over McAdams at No. 5. Gabby Williams defeated Christenson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Quakers (1-0) return to action at home against Indiana University-East on Monday, Sept. 16. The match starts at 4:30 p.m.
RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College volleyball team finished the Quaker Classic on Sunday.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn won the first match 18-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-21 over the Quakers on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center. Earlham fell 25-21, 25-21, 25-19 in its second contest.
Mikah Sizemore led the Quakers with nine kills against Michigan-Dearborn. Ashley Hedrick had 19 assists. Emily Lim had nine digs.
Against Ohio wesleyan, Jolene Wells top Earlham with six kills as Hedrick finished with 21 assists.
Meg Huffmeyer had three aces for the Quakers, while Jazmyn Corlew and Sizemore had two each.
Rinako Nakamura led the Quakers with 11 digs.
Earlham (3-5) entertains Ohio Christian University on Tuesday. The non-conference match begins at 7 p.m.
