SEWANEE, Tenn. — Late scoring rallies helped the Earlham College baseball team
finish its weekend series on Sunday with a 7-4 victory over the University of the
South.

With the score tied at 2-2 heading into the seventh inning, the Quakers took a 4-2
lead on run-scoring singles by Sam Ward and Alex Arovits.

Ward added to the lead in the top of the eighth with a single that scored a pair of
runs to make it 6-2.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers (4-1) cut the deficit to 6-4 with two runs.

The Quakers were able to answer in the top of the ninth when Ryan McCray singled,
stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.

T.J. Plummer closed out the bottom of the ninth as he earned his first save of the
season, which is the sixth of his career. He is now tied for first on Earlham's
all-time save list with Mark Thompson (1994-1997) and Jay Laurie (1984-1987).

Nate Hube started on the mound and went six innings for the Quakers to pick up the
win. Hube (1-0) gave up two runs on three hits with a strikeout.

The Tigers scored twice off Hube in the first frame before he shut them down to
allow the Quakers to tie the game in the fourth inning. Ryan Hayes had a sacrifice
fly and McCray knocked in a run on a fielder's choice.

Justin Broach worked a scoreless seventh inning in relief of Hube. Broach left in
the eighth, after allowing the first three batters to reach base. Broach was charged
with two runs, while Colton Miller was able to get out of the eighth without any
more damage.

Ward led the Quakers with three hits, while Arovits, McCray and Josh Parr had two
hits each.

The Quakers (1-2) are back in action next weekend with a three-game series at
Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. On Saturday, the first game of the
doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. There is a 9-inning single contest on Sunday beginning
at noon.
