Men's Basketball - Ethan Spurlin, Transylvania University

Transylvania University senior forward Ethan Spurlin (Stanford, Ky./Lincoln
Co.) averaged a double-double last week for the Pioneers and has been named
the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the
Week.  The senior averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and shot 56% from the
floor in two contests for Transy.  Spurlin posted a double-double with
game-highs of 29 points and 12 rebounds in a 70-64 overtime loss to rival
Centre.  He was 10-for-20 from the field and nine-of-13 from the free throw
line to go with one assist and one blocked shot in the loss.  In a 75-45 win
at Anderson Saturday, Spurlin again led all scorers with 16 points and nine
rebounds.  The senior was eight-of-12 from the field with three assists and
two steals in the win over AU.  Transylvania (3-2, 1-0 HCAC) will open its
home schedule against Earlham and Manchester this week.

Women's Basketball - Kim Comden, Defiance College

Defiance College's Kim Comden (Defiance, Ohio/Ayersville) led the Yellow
Jackets to a 2-0 record last week and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.  The
senior center set a career-high in a 56-50 win over Rose-Hulman Saturday
with 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field.  In the second half,
Comden scored 12-straight points for the Jackets to hold off a Rose-Hulman
rally.  The Defiance native added four rebounds, four assists, three blocks,
and two steals in the HCAC victory.  In an 80-69 win over Alma Wednesday,
Comden scored 17 points, on seven-of-12 shooting, with eight rebounds, two
assists, and two blocks.  For the week, Comden averaged 19.5 points, 6.0
rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 2.0 steals, while shooting 54.8% from
the floor.  Defiance (2-3, 1-0 HCAC) will play host to Anderson and Hanover
this week.
