Quakers Fall to Marietta in Turkey Shoot

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Earlham College women's basketball team battled with Marietta College on Saturday during the first day of the 28th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot as the Pioneers defeated the Quakers 69-67.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) topped the Quakers with 19 points and Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) tossed in 17 points against the Pioneers (3-0)..
Raven Bryant-Williams (Columbus, OH, Northland), Natasha Norman (St. Louis, MO, Vashon) and Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) finished with six points each.
Bryant-Williams led the Quakers with 11 rebounds, while Emily Sells (Winchester, IN, Winchester) pulled down seven rebounds.
The Quakers fell behind early in the contest and trailed 15-2 at the 11:42 mark of the opening period.
When JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) hit 1-of-2 free throws with 6:48 left in the first half, the Quakers closed the gap to 17-12.
By intermission, Marietta held a 35-25 advantage.
In the second half, the Quakers cut the deficit to 39-35 when Sells scored at 17:09.
The Pioneers were able to widen their margin to 58-49 by the 6:57 mark before the Quakers were able to fight back.
Sneed hit a pair of free throws to make it 69-65 with 1:32 remaining.
Jazmynne Cunningham (Springfield, OH, North) nailed two free throws with 36 seconds to go, which proved to be the final points of the contest.
Earlham (1-3) finishes the two-day event in Marietta against Muskingum University (2-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Muskingum defeated Daeman College 60-57 on Saturday.
