CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — The Earlham College men's basketball team opened the season on Thursday with a 98-62 loss at Thomas More College. Dustin Rusk led the Quakers with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jack O'Flaherty tossed in 10 points. Marty Broderick added eight points and six rebounds. Tyler Levers and Joe Adams finished with seven points each. The contest was tight early as the game was tied twice before the Quakers took their first lead at the 14:50 mark when a basket by Levers made it 12-10. After the Saints (1-0) tied the game again, Broderick scored to make it 14-12 with 13:05 left in the first period. At that point, Thomas More scored five straight points to build a 17-14 advantage that was erased by a 3-pointer by Rusk as he tied the contest with 11:08 on the clock. The Saints were able to go back on top 20-17 when Rusk struck again. He hit a jumper to close the gap at 20-19. He then nailed a trey to put the Quakers in front 22-20 at 9:29. Levers gave the Quakers a 24-20 lead when he scored at 8:46. Thomas More scored on its next two possessions to lead 25-24. The Saints finished the half with 28-5 run to lead 53-29 at intermission. The Quakers (0-1) face Oberlin College on Saturday in their home opener. The non-conference affair on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center begins at 3 p.m.
