GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University's Kyle Smith (Cincinnati,
Ohio/LaSalle) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Mike Schiff
(Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) have been named the 2012 Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Players on offense and defense
respectively.  Smith helped guide the Pioneers to their eighth regular
season title and ninth HCAC men's soccer tournament crown, while Schiff led
the Engineers to a share of their third HCAC title with an 8-0-1 conference
mark.

Smith has led the Transylvania offense this season, leading the conference
in points and goals.  The junior forward has scored 18 goals and added four
assists to lead the Transy offense which ranks first in the HCAC in scoring
with 49 goals this season.  In conference matches, Smith led the league with
nine goals and 20 points scored in nine matches.

Schiff was named Defensive Most Valuable Player for his efforts this fall.
The junior back anchored the Engineers defensive unit during the season as
the Engineers allowed an HCAC-best four goals in league play.  Schiff was
the star of the Rose defense that allowed only 16 goals in 20 matches this
season, including nine shutouts.

Franklin College's Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central)
has been selected as the 2012 HCAC Freshman of the Year.  Fundenberger, a
midfielder for the Grizzlies, led the team with six goals and three assists
this fall.  The freshman ranked ninth in the HCAC in points (15) and 10th in
goals scored.

Rose-Hulman's Sean Helliwell has been named the 2012 HCAC Coach of the Year,
earning his fourth honor as the head man for the Engineers.  He led
Rose-Hulman to a 12-5-3 record this season, earning a share of the HCAC
title with an 8-0-1 league mark.

Fourteen players join Smith, Schiff, and Fundenberger as All-HCAC First Team
members. Those players include Anderson's Brad Rusche (Jr., New Palestine,
