The streak was extended to 25 consecutive losses following Earlham’s 34-10 HCAC loss to the Defiance College Yellow Jackets. “There were a couple costly penalties,” said Earlham head coach Neil Kazmierczak. “We made really simple mistakes that hurt our team.” The Quakers were flagged 12 times on the afternoon for 107 penalty yards. Two of the penalties led to Yellow Jacket touchdowns on the extended drives. “Penalties cost us some,” said Earlham assistant coach Joe Molina. “We will look at them and learn from them.” Defense provided some bright spots for the Quakers. Junior linebacker Richard Martinez led Earlham with 12 tackles on the day, including a sack. “Defense played hard,” Molina said. “They never quit.” On the offensive side of the ball, Earlham freshman Marcus Coby led the Quakers in receiving yards. Coby racked up five catches for 64 yards including one 40-yard reception from freshman quarterback Alonzo Genelin.
