Earlham College Broadcast SportsMen's Cross Country - Hayden Krick, Defiance College
Defiance College's Hayden Krick (Antwerp, Ohio, H.S.) won the individual
title at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational Saturday and has been named the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the
Week. Krick set the all-time Defiance record and course record with an 8K
time of 25:57.8, finishing first among 139 runners. His performance
propelled the Jackets to a third place showing at the 17 team event.
Women's Cross Country - Hillary Cain, Franklin College
Franklin College's Hillary Cain (Rushville, Ind./H.S.) was the individual
champion in the Little State division at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet
Friday in Terre Haute and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time.
The sophomore completed the 5K course with a career-best time of 18:30,
finishing first among 150 runners. The blue and gold placed ninth among 18
Division II, III, and NAIA schools.
Football: Offense - Dexter Britt, Hanover College
Hanover College quarterback Dexter Britt (Louisville, Ky./Male) led the
Panthers to a second half come-from-behind 28-24 win over Mount St. Joseph
Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Football Player of the Week on offense. The junior quarterback threw for a
career-high 399 yards, completing 33 of his 48 passes with three touchdowns
and two interceptions. Britt was 16-of-21 for 283 yards and two scores in
the second half as the Panthers rallied from a 24-9 deficit late in the
third quarter. Hanover (1-2, 1-0 HCAC) returns to action on Saturday,
September 29 against Rose-Hulman.
Football: Defense - John Burt, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman defensive back John Burt (West Terre Haute, Ind./West Vigo) led
the Engineers' defense in Saturday's 33-20 win over Defiance and has been
named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the
Week on defense. The junior returned an interception 20 yards for a
touchdown, had 10 total tackles, and made two key stops inside the five-yard
line during the win. RHIT (1-2, 1-0 HCAC) will face Manchester in Terre
Haute Saturday at 2:00 PM.
Football: Special Teams - Eric Schaible, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's Eric Schaible (Findlay, Ohio/H.S.) averaged 47.2 yards per
punt in RHIT's 33-20 win at Defiance Saturday and has been named the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on
special teams. The junior punter averaged 47.2 yards per punt over six
kicks, including a 60-yard boot. Schaible had punts downed at the one and
three yard lines to keep DC in long fields. RHIT (1-2, 1-0 HCAC) will face
Manchester in Terre Haute Saturday at 2:00 PM.
Women's Golf - Brooke McKay, Hanover College
Hanover College's Brooke McKay (Carmel, Ind./H.S.) led the Panthers to a
third place finish at the Manchester Invitational over the weekend and has
been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of
the Week. The sophomore placed sixth overall among 80 golfers with a round
of 85. Hanover posted a 358 to finish two strokes behind champion Indiana
Wesleyan.
Women's Tennis - Kaitlin Hizny, Transylvania University
Transylvania University's Kaitlin Hizny (Owensboro, Ky./Daviess Co.) led the
Pioneers to wins over Manchester and Hanover last week and has been named
the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the
Week. The senior earned a pair of wins at the No. 2 singles position and
teamed with Claire Mielcarek for two wins at No. 1 doubles against the
Spartans and Panthers. Transylvania (3-0, 3-0 HCAC) will tangle with
Franklin and Rose-Hulman this week.
Men's Soccer - B.J. Thompson, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's B.J. Thompson (Princeton, Ind./H.S.) scored a pair of goals to
lead the Engineers during the week and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. The senior
midfielder scored the game winning goal in RHIT's 3-0 shutout win over
Millikin and netted the team's only goal in a 2-1 loss at Illinois Wesleyan.
Rose (2-3-2, 0-0 HCAC) will play host to Fontbonne, Principia, and Centre in
non-conference play this week.
Women's Soccer - Vanessa Benham, Franklin College
Franklin College junior forward Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin) led
the Grizzlies to wins over Oberlin and Heidelberg during the week and has
been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer
Player of the Week. The junior scored a goal in overtime to lift the blue
and gold to a 2-1 win at Oberlin Saturday and found the back of the net in
FC's 1-0 win at Heidelberg on Sunday. Benham also added an assist in the
Oberlin victory. Franklin (2-3, 0-0 HCAC) returns to action on Wednesday,
September 26 against Millikin.
Volleyball: Offense - Sarah Pruden, Manchester University
Manchester University's Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind./H.S.) led the
Spartans to a 3-1 record at the Manchester Pizza Hut Invitational and has
been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of
the Week on offense. The freshman recorded 76 of Manchester's 180 kills at
the tournament and continued a recent string of seven consecutive
double-figure kill matches. Pruden had a team-best attack percentage of
.267 over the weekend, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. Manchester
(8-5, 0-0 HCAC) will face Indiana-Northwest, Adrian, and Kalamazoo this
week.
Volleyball: Defense - Kylie Justus, Hanover College
Hanover College's Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind./H.S.) helped the
Panthers to a 3-2 record last week and has been named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on defense.
The junior defensive specialist averaged 6.2 digs per set during the week,
totaling 99 digs in five matches. Justus had a 33 dig performance in a
four-set win over Rose-Hulman to help the Panthers finish the DePauw
Invitational with a 3-1 mark. Hanover (7-7, 0-0 HCAC) will open HCAC play
at Earlham Wednesday night.
