June 21, 2011
Cardinal High School

Cardinal softball wins 9 - 8 over Danville

What a difference 5 days make when it comes to playing softball. Cardinal traveled to Danville on 6/15 and romped the Bears 12 - 1 in five innings, and Monday night the Comets had a much tougher battle on their hands. The Comets only lead in the game came in the bottom of the 7th inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, trailing 8 - 7 and Lindsay Moore at the plate. Moore already 3 - 4 on the evening, belted the full count pitch down the left field line for a double knocking in the game winning runs. "What a way for Linds to end the night. She was hitting rockets all night long, and it was nice to see her come through in another pressure situation." said Comet coach Darren Hill. The Comets had 11 hits on the evening including Moore's 4-5 night. Felisha Durflinger had a great night at the plate as well, going 3 - 4 with a double and a home run, including 4 runs batted in, Cory Campbell got 2 hits including a double and scored 2 runs, Allison Ollom was 1 for 3 and scored a run, and Laci Moore hit a double and had 3 runs batted in. "We did not play as well as I would have liked, but when we were down by 1 run in the 7th inning, the ladies did what good teams do, and they rose to the occasion and got themselves the win." added Hill. The Comets are now 7 - 1 in the SEISC South division, and will play a rain out make up game at Harmony on Tuesday at noon before traveling to New London.
